Snohomish County Fire District 1 responded to 680 calls Jan. 17-30: 560 emergency medical aid calls, 44 motor vehicle collisions, 25 fires, 14 service calls, 8 natural gas leaks, 1 hazardous materials response and 29 automatic fire alarms.

Jan. 18

COLLISION: At 7:44 a.m., a two-car collision was reported at 164th Street Southwest and 36th Avenue West north of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported two patients to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

COLLISION: At 8:13 a.m., firefighters responded to the 15300 block of Highway 99 north of Lynnwood for a car that crashed into a building. No one was injured.

Jan. 21

FATAL APARTMENT FIRE: At 6:06 p.m., a woman died when a fire broke out in her apartment in the 8600 block of 240th Street Southwest in Edmonds. Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and damage was contained to one unit. Fire investigators believe the fire was started when a clip-on reading lamp came loose and fell on a bed where the hot light bulb ignited combustible bedding.

Jan. 23

COLLISION: At 9:48 a.m., a car flipped over on southbound I-5 just south of 128th St. Southwest. Firefighters used rescue tools to free the driver from the wreckage. She was transported by medic unit to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

BARN FIRE: At 8:04 p.m., firefighters extinguished a fire in an abandoned barn in the 1200 block of Filbert Road. No one was injured. Firefighters had to lay about 1,000 feet of hose up a steep, wooded hillside to reach the barn. Firefighters saw evidence of homeless camps in the woods surrounding the barn.

Jan. 24

COLLISION: At 5:38 p.m., a collision involving several cars was reported on northbound I-5 north of 220th Street Southwest. Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.

Jan. 25

HEATER FIRE: At 5:33 p.m., firefighters responded to a house full of smoke in the 23600 block of 99th Place West in Edmonds. The residents were not at home. Firefighters discovered the smoke was being generated by a malfunctioning space heater. They removed the heater and ventilated the house. Damage was minimal.

Jan. 26

CHIMNEY FIRE: At 1:21 p.m., firefighters extinguished a chimney fire at a home in the 3400 block of 158th Street Southwest north of Lynnwood.

KITCHEN FIRE: At 4:23 p.m., firefighters extinguished a stovetop fire at an apartment in the 1000 block of 130th Street SW in Everett. The fire was contained to the kitchen of one apartment. The residents were able to return to the apartment as damage was minimal. No one was injured.

Jan. 27

CEILING FAN FIRE: At 2:12 a.m., firefighters extinguished a small fire in a bathroom ceiling fan at a home in the 14100 block of 64th Drive Southeast east of Mill Creek. No one was injured.

COLLISION: At 2:26 p.m., a two-car collision occurred at 134th Place Southeast and 58th Drive Southeast near Everett. Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Providence Regional Medical Center Everett.Jan. 29

COLLISION: At 9:41 p.m., a car struck a pedestrian at Highway 99 and Lincoln Way north of Lynnwood. Firefighters transported the injured pedestrian to Harborview Medical Center.

Jan. 30

COLLISION: At 5:53 p.m., a two-car collision was reported at 121st Street Southwest and Beverly Park Road south of Everett. Firefighters transported one patient with minor injuries to Swedish/Edmonds Hospital.
