The public is invited to join firefighters at Snohomish County Fire District 1 as they remember those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

Moment of Silence Ceremonies will be at a number of fire stations.At each fire station listed below, on-duty firefighters will gather at the flag pole at 6:55 a.m. on Sept. 11 to observe a minute of silence at 6:58 a.m. Dispatchers will broadcast a memorial tone and announcement at 6:59 a.m., the time of the collapse of the World Trade Center’s south tower, to conclude the brief ceremony. The remembrance will honor the 343 firefighters and paramedics killed in the line of duty at the World Trade Center attack.

• Hilltop Fire Station 22, 20510 Damson Rd, Lynnwood.
• Lake Serene Fire Station 23, 4323 Serene Way, Lynnwood.
• Martha Lake Fire Station 21, 16819 13th Ave. W, Lynnwood
• Brier Fire Station 18, 21206 Poplar Way, Brier.
• Edmonds Fire Station 16, 8429 196th St. SW, Edmonds.
• Edmonds Fire Station 20, 23009, 88th Ave. W, Edmonds.
• Mountlake Terrace Fire Station 19, 5902 232nd St. SW, Mountlake Terrace.

Note that ceremonies may be delayed or canceled if in-service firefighters are responding to emergency calls.

Edmonds ceremonies

Firefighters from Edmonds Fire Station 17 will attend the September 11 Memorial Taps Ceremony with Edmonds Police Department bugler Debbie Dawson, at 7:10 a.m. at the fountain at 5th Avenue and Main Street in downtown Edmonds.

At 7:30 a.m., the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1828 will host a ceremony at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park just north of Fire Station 17, 275 6th Ave. N, in downtown Edmonds. The event is free and open to the public. Attire for firefighters is dress uniform.

The guest speaker will be retired Fire District 1 Capt. Andy Speier, a former New York firefighter who returned to the city immediately following the Sept. 11 attack to assist with rescue efforts.

A one-ton steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center will be on display during the ceremony. The beam will become the focal point of a memorial that will be built at the Edmonds Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park. The project is being funded entirely by donations.
