Today is Flag Day, and Lynnwood-based Cub Scout Pack 363 will be participating in a flag burning ceremony tonight. It will take place at the Edmonds City Park (500 3rd Ave. S.) in downtown Edmonds starting at 8 p.m. The public is welcome to attend.
A flag burning ceremony is considered a traditional and dignified way to retire an American flag that is too tattered to serve as a symbol of the United States. The American Legion, Boy Scouts of America, Girl Scouts of the USA and other organizations regularly conduct flag retirement ceremonies, often on Flag Day.
