College Place Elementary class reaches food drive goal

Food DriveThe students in Sherri Brothers’ second-grade class at College Place Elementary celebrated the 100th day of school by reaching their goal of 100 cans for 100 days of school.

This effort was part of a larger school-wide food drive initiative led by Cathy Roberts’ second-grade students.

“Our class wanted to contribute to the food drive by collecting 100 cans of food in celebration of the 100th day of school,” Brothers said. “We figured out that if each person brought in four cans of food we would make our goal. Each day we counted food. But when we started bringing them in, we couldn’t stop! Each day we celebrated the generosity of the class. It was a great feeling and we surpassed our goal by 173 cans.”

College Place Principal Justin Irish said, “Each year, Cathy’s class leads our whole school to donate food for the food bank. Cathy does a great job training them for this leadership role.”
