A former Meadowdale High School football player is being sought in the brutal assault of a 29-year-old Camano Island woman in her home last week.
According to the Island County Sheriff’s Office, Naji Roshad Moore-Taylor — along with Megan Noelle Failing — assaulted and shot the woman in her home around 8 a.m. Jan. 3. The last known address for both Moore-Taylor and Failing is Bothell, Island County Sheriff Mark Brown said.
A star running back on the Mavericks’ 2009 football team, Moore-Taylor was profiled in this 2009 story from our online news partner The Seattle Times about his difficult upbringing in Queens, N.Y., prior to his adoption by a local couple, which brought him to Meadowdale.
The victim, who had non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released from the hospital, knew the suspects, who are still at large, Brown said. Moore-Taylor and Failing — both 21 — were last seen leaving the area in a 1996 black Nissan four-door vehicle, license plate number AGJ0950. They are considered armed and dangerous.
Brown said his office has been in communication with acquaintances who have indicated the couple would surrender, although so far that has not materialized. “We’re hoping that they will turn themselves in,” Brown added.
Moore-Taylor is a described as a black male, 6 feet and 190 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Failing is a white female, 5-6 and 112 pounds with brown hair and hazel eyes. Anyone with information should contact 911 or the Island County Sheriff’s Office via the ICOM dispatch center at 1-360-679-9567.
