Garbage strike still possible as Waste Management delivers its final offer

Thursday night Waste Management delivered its final contract offer to 350 trash haulers that serve King and Snohomish counties, including Lynnwood east of Highway 99.

The offer includes a wage increase of $1 per hour in the first year, up from the current $26.29 per hour. It also includes a contribution of over $15,000 per year to each employee’s pension fund with no employee contribution required and a one-time bonus of $1,000 per employee if the contract is approved on April 3.

“This provides our hard working employees with a very generous compensation package” said Jackie Lang, spokesperson for Waste Management. “We know this because we have received more than 1,500 job applications in the last three days.”

A spokesperson for Teamsters Local 174 says the union is still analyzing the offer. Allied Waste, which also serves Lynnwood, reached a tentative deal with its drivers earlier this week.
