Triton Field, Edmonds Community College’s new multi-use turf field, has its grand opening this weekend.
The celebration starts Saturday, March 31 at 12:40 p.m., before Edmonds takes on the baseball team from Shoreline Community College. The first 100 fans will receive a free T-shirt.
Construction on the field started last summer. Before it was built, teams had to practice off-campus. On rainy days, they resorted to Shop-Vacs to keep the field usable.
“It will be a big draw for recruiting that we have one of the best fields throughout the league,” said baseball coach Brad Ditter.
The $2.5 million field is paid for by a student fee of $1.50 per credit.
It will be used for intramural activities, for intercollegiate sports teams — baseball, softball, and soccer — PE classes, and will also be available for community rentals.
