grayscale-logo_1Registration for the 30th annual Write on the Sound writers’ conference registration begins July 28.

The pre-conference begins Friday, Oct 2 and the full conference runs Saturday and Sunday Oct. 3-4 at Frances Anderson Center, 700 Main St., Edmonds.

Write on the Sound (WOTS) celebrates 30 years of offering writers a variety of workshops exploring the craft of writing. With affordable fees, limited attendance, and sold out registration in recent years, WOTS is one of the Northwest’s most popular conferences.

Friday, Oct. 2: Pre-conference workshops provide an opportunity to delve deeply into a specific topic. The 2015 full-day class is presented by award-winning and best-selling author, Robert Dugoni, who will walk workshop attendees through three of his most popular seminars: Creating Plots for Page Turners, Playing God, and Maintaining Tension and Suspense. Three half-day workshops are available on several topics. Publisher and author Shirin Yim Bridges will take attendees step-by-step through the publishing process. Short-story author and novelist Eric Witchey will facilitate a hands-on session on finding and exploiting character emotion in order to create emotion-driven stories. Spokane poets Maya Jewell Zeller and Laura Read will explore long form poetry and will lead attendees through a series of generative exercises meant to stretch their poetry skills.

Saturday and Sunday conference sessions offer over 30 classes on craft, marketing, publishing and specialty writing topics presented by professionals and expert instructors in writing and publishing. Also available for conference attendees is an opportunity to sign up for a manuscript critique and to participate in a literary contest for fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

A book signing meet-and-greet on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Plaza Room, 650 Main St., is a chance to meet the conference session presenters. This event is open to the public.

Plenary speakers this year are New York Times andUSA Today bestselling Puget Sound author Stella Cameron on Oct. 2, and Edmond’s own travel guru, TV producer/host and bestselling author Rick Steves on Oct. 3 (must be registered for WOTS to attend).
