Edmonds School DistrictBrier Terrace Middle School in Brier was locked down Tuesday afternoon following the discovery on school property of a suspicious object marked with threatening comments.

The dismissal of students was altered while police invested the object. No explosive device was found in the object, which was found on the northeast portion of school property, near the track.

After school activities have been canceled, but school will be open on Wednesday, Feb. 4.

The following is an email from the school to parents:

This email is a follow-up communication regarding the lockdown we had today. As you are already aware, we altered dismissal this afternoon while police investigated a suspicious object located in the northeast portion of the school property, near the track. We want to thank families, students and staff for their incredible patience and appropriate response to this unexpected disruption to our day.

After students left, law enforcement took precautionary measures to inspect the object marked with threatening comments. While no explosive device was located in the object, this is a serious matter that we will continue to investigate. Please talk with your student about any information they may know about this item being placed on school grounds before 12:20 p.m. today. Information can be reported to the Edmonds School District Safe School Tipline at 425-431-7010, or please bring information to us at the school in person or by calling 425-431-7838.

School will be open Wednesday, Feb. 4 and operating on a regular schedule.
