Cascade Symphony has announced its 2016-17 season, and reminds audience members that Early Bird season ticket prices will be in effect through Wednesday, June 1.

Full orchestra concert dates for the season are Oct. 24, 2016, Dec. 11 and Dec. 12, 2016, January 9, 2017, March 13, 2017, and May 8, 2017. In addition, CSO will present its annual Children’s Concert on Feb. 11, 2017, and its Ensemble Concert on April 23, 2017.

The season begins with “Opening Night – with a Bit of Halloween.” This concert will feature soloist Yuka Sasaki in the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 in E-flat Major. The orchestra will begin with the overture to Lehar’s The Merry Widow. It will continue in a seasonal theme with the Skeleton Dance from Danse Macabre by Saint-Saens, Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky, and Ravel’s ever-popular Bolero.

The “Holiday Pops” concert will again be offered in two performances. Pieces will include excerpts from The Nutcracker, Strauss dances, light selections by Leroy Anderson, a Holiday Sing-Along, and the now-familiar Chanukah Medley, among others. Music Director Michael Miropolsky will also be featured on violin.

The season continues in January with “Pathetique”, including Tchaikovsky’s 6th Symphony known by that name.  French horn solist Jeffrey Fair will perform the Morceau de Concert by Saint-Saens and the Mozart Horn Concerto No.3 in E-flat Major. The concert will be filled out with The Iron Foundry by Mosolov.

In March, CSO will present “A Violin Festival,” introducing the 2015 winners of the Seattle Music Teachers Association Simon-Fiset String Competition in various violin virtuoso pieces. The orchestra will also play Dvorak’s 6th Symphony in D minor.

Finally, “Pictures at an Exhibition” will be performed in May. In addition to the title work by Mussorgky, the program includes Marche Slave by Tchaikovsky. Meeka Quan DiLorenzo will be cello soloist in the Haydn C Major Cello Concerto.

The 2017 Children’s Concert will include a new selection for CSO, “The Tortoise and The Hare”, narrated by Dave Dolacky. The concert will also include the popular Cascade Percussion Ensemble and a performance by a young Rising Star.

The CSO Ensemble Concert features performances by members of Cascade Symphony in small ensembles in more intimate settings.

Season tickets include all full orchestra concerts; but tickets to the Children’s and Ensemble concerts are purchased separately. Early Bird Season Ticket prices are $110 for Adults and $90 for Seniors, with prices increasing to $115 and $95 after June 1.

All full orchestra concerts are presented at Edmonds Center for the Arts, 410 4th Ave. N. in Edmonds. Concerts begin at 7:30 p.m.with a 6:30 p.m. pre-concert lecture by KING-FM’s Dave Beck.
