A fire on Monday afternoon caused $120,000 damage to a home in the Martha Lake area east of Lynnwood. Two people were inside at the time but no one was hurt.

The fire was reported around 1:45 p.m. at a two-story house in the 100 block of 167th Place Southwest in unincorporated Snohomish County.

“One of the residents was working in the front yard when a neighbor alerted her to flames on the back corner of the house,” Fire District 1 spokeswoman Leslie Hynes said. “Her husband and 12-year-old daughter were inside the house at the time and got out safely.”

Firefighters from Fire Districts 1 and 7 responded and had the fire under control within 20 minutes. No one was injured.

“The fire started outside on the back corner of the house. Flames went up the siding and into the attic,” Hynes said. “Firefighters had to pull down ceiling to get to the fire.”

The fire left the house uninhabitable. Damage to the home is estimated at $120,000. A neighboring home sustained about $5,000 damage to a window, siding and roofing. Both homeowners have insurance.  Snohomish County Red Cross was called to assist the family of three displaced by the fire.

The Snohomish County Fire Marshal’s Office investigated the fire and was unable to pinpoint the cause, but said it appeared to be accidental.
