This year the club is expecting 350 skaters in the competition representing around 30 clubs from nine states, with competitors who range in age from 4 to 66 years old. Skaters are traveling from many states, including: Alaska, Montana, California, Colorado, Texas, Oregon, Idaho, and Washington. The competition is for skaters of all skill levels and ages.
The Ice Fest competition is scheduled to start at on June 3, and run through June 7. The competition schedule has not been determined. Ice Fest Skating Competition is open to the general public.
“This is an exciting and fun competition for skaters, spectators, officials, and volunteers, where we can all cheer for the brand-new skaters who have never competed before as well as the seasoned veterans who are landing double and triple jumps with grace. As is true every year, this event is free to spectators”, said Celeste Jackson, Ice Fest Co-Chair.
The qualifying skating levels, which are the levels that move on from Regionals to Sectionals and Nationals at the end of the season, are Juvenile, Intermediate, Novice, Junior, and Senior. The competition is sanctioned by U.S. Figure Skating. The club is hosting the 2016 Northwest Pacific Figure Skating Regional Championships, Oct. 10-13 at Olympicview Ice Arena.
