There’s no word yet on the cause of a fire Monday morning at a home in the 6400 block of 178th Place SW.
Just before 11 a.m., a caller reported that black smoke was coming from a garage that had been converted into a living space. The owners were able to safely evacuate before firefighters arrived.
Crews had a difficult time fighting the fire because of multiple roof decks and a heavy load in the attic.
A city building official deemed the structure unsafe to occupy because of instability. Until it can be made safe, the cause of the fire and damage estimates cannot be finalized.
Two engines, one ladder truck and three medic units, along with 24 personnel, responded to the scene.
