Snohomish County is looking for volunteers for its annual homeless count later this month.
The “Point in Time” count is tool in the county’s efforts to assess the number of homeless individuals and families in Snohomish County. The results will help ensure the county continues to receive federal and state funding to fight homelessness.
“We are dedicated to ending homelessness in Snohomish County, and the ‘Point in Time’ count allows us to identify the scale of local homelessness, to measure our progress and to put a face to the issue,” said County Executive Aaron Reardon.
During the 2010 count, 2,362 individuals and 1,335 families were identified as being homeless. Thirty-six percent of those were children.
Volunteers are needed for different parts of the county on Jan. 27 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. To volunteer for south Snohomish County, contact Maria Bighaus, at 425-774-9843 ext. 236 or mbighaus@ywcaworks.org.
