A 52-year-old man with ties to Lynnwood was arrested Friday morning after he set fire to his hotel room in the 4100 block of 196th St. SW.
First calls to 911 were from the alarm company saying that fire alarms and sprinklers were going off at the hotel. Soon after that employees and guests were also calling to report smoke coming from a room on the second floor.
The hotel was evacuated and no one was injured. The fire was contained to the one room and there was only minor water damage to a few nearby rooms.
“Fortunately there was a sprinkler system installed in this building so we avoided what could’ve been a significant loss of life and property in this building,” said Lynnwood Fire Marshal Leroy McNulty. The fire was extinguished before the firefighters arrived.
Why the man set the fire is still under investigation.
