The Lynnwood police officer injured in a struggle with a felony suspect earlier this week continues to recover at Harborview.
28-year-old Officer Ryan Hoirup went through surgery well on Tuesday for multiple fractures to his pelvis, after falling down an 18-foot embankment. The suspect, who suffered only a broken wrist, continued to fight Officer Hoirup after the fall, according to police officials.
“While Officer Hoirup will have a long road to recovery, we are thankful that his condition isn’t more dire,” said Shannon Sessions, police spokesperson.
The police department extended its thanks to the community for its many well wishes to the Hoirup family and fellow officers.
Sessions says at this point, the Hoirup family has not expressed a fundraising need. If that changes, we’ll let you know.
