A Lynnwood man who performed CPR on a stranger at a park on Christmas Eve will be honored by Fire District 1 Commissioners at their board meeting Tuesday night.

Kyle Stone — a Coast Guard reservist who lives in unincorporated Lynnwood — was at Logan Park on Dec. 24 when a woman pulled into the parking lot screaming that her boyfriend needed help. When Stone reached the car he saw the boyfriend, a man in his 20s, was unconscious and turning blue.

Stone called 911 and told dispatchers he would be starting CPR. He continued CPR for about three minutes until firefighters arrived. The man started breathing and was taken to Swedish Edmonds.

“We know every second counts in an emergency like this. Mr. Stone’s efforts may very well have meant the difference between life and death for this patient,” said Fire Chief Ed Widdis.

Commissioners will present a Certificate of Commendation to Stone to honor him for his quick actions and his willingness to get involved to help save the life of a stranger.
