Extra DUI patrols now through Labor Day

Extra cops in Lynnwood and around Snohomish County will hit the streets this holiday weekend to look for drunk drivers.

“Twenty-five lives have been lost in traffic crashes this year in Snohomish County,” said Tracy McMillan, Snohomish County’s DUI & Target Zero manager. “Many of these were caused by a driver who chose to speed and/or drive under the influence.”

More than half of all impaired driver-related deaths occur during the weekend.

The task force is also asking drivers to share the road. Nearly 50 motorcyclists have died in Washington state so far this year, with three of those deaths in Snohomish County.

The overtime patrols are paid for by a grant from the Washington State Traffic Safety Commission.
