Shoreline management is the topic of a public forum this Thursday, April 28 sponsored by the League of Women Voters. The event starts at 7 p.m. at the PUD Building Commissioners Room, 2320 California St., Everett.
A panel of professional planners from the Tulalip Tribes and Snohomish County Planning Departments will discuss Shoreline Management. The panel will also include Snohomish County District 2 Councilmember Brian Sullivan, who will provide his perspective on the importance of inter-agency cooperation with the goal of preserving and maintaining the shorelines. In addition to the immediate Puget Sound area, the shorelines include other waterways like most of our lakes, rivers, creeks and other streams.
Washington State’s Shoreline Management Act (Chapter 90.58 RCW) was passed by the Legislature in 1971 and adopted by the public in a 1972 referendum. The goal is “to prevent the inherent harm in an uncoordinated and piecemeal development of the state’s shorelines.” (RCW 90.58.020)
