Lynnwood celebrates its 50th birthday

Lynnwood residents and city officials ended a yearlong 50th birthday celebration with a party last night at Lynnwood Convention Center.

Mayor Don Gough spoke about Lynnwood’s vision of being a model for the region. Last year the City Council passed an ordinance that read, “the city of Lynnwood will be a regional model for a sustainable, vibrant community with engaged citizens and an accountable government.”

Upstairs in the large ballroom, Chinese Lion dancers from Mak Fai Kung Fu Club and Hawaiian dancers from Hula o Lehualani entertained the crowd, while City Council President Ted Hikel served birthday cake.

Downstairs, children had fun dancing to the band Recess Monkey, making crafts and tumbling on the equipment from Little Gym.

It was also a chance for people to write down their predictions for the future of Lynnwood, to be sealed in a time capsule and opened in 2059. The time capsule will be dedicated with a ceremony at city hall on Friday.
