Lynnwood commemorates 50th anniversary of March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s historic speech Posted: August 28, 2013 991 Lynnwood Neighborhoods & Demographic Diversity Commission Chair Shirley Sutton helps commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream Speech’ by ringing a bell during a ceremony Wednesday at Veterans Park. Millions of people across the country rang bells to Let Freedom Ring in honor of this historic speech. A bell was rung marking each minute of the 19-minute ‘I Have a Dream Speech.’ As part of the Let Freedom Ring ceremony, residents went up before the assembled crowd and rang a bell for a minute in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream Speech.’ Here Steve Johnson rings a bell. Individual bells were distributed to the crowd before the bell ringing ceremony. People were encouraged to join in the bell ringing during the Let Freedom ring ceremony. Some people brought their own bells to ring in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.
