No Fourth of July fireworks show in Lynnwood could mean a larger crowd in Edmonds

Edmonds is predicting a larger than usual crowd for its annual Fourth of July festivities, in part because Lynnwood eliminated its own fireworks display.

Back in March, the Lynnwood City Council decided not to host a Fourth of July event because of the city’s financial crunch. It was estimated to cost around $22,000. (Lynnwood’s fireworks show wasn’t funded when the 2009 – 2010 budget was originally written because the Council expected the Lynnwood Athletic Complex, where it’s been held in the past, to be under construction by now.)

At last night’s Edmonds City Council meeting, the Greater Edmonds Chamber of Commerce said the Edmonds celebration is likely to be much larger because Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace have both canceled their shows. The Edmonds Chamber is soliciting donations to help offset the cost.
