It was safe to say that Lynnwood got movin’ on Saturday.
The summer weather no doubt helped encourage parents and their children to come out to the 10th annual Get Movin’ fitness program kickoff at Alderwood Mall.
The program’s goal is to get families movin’ and improve their health by adopting a more active, and healthy lifestyle through physical and recreational activites.
Many children were doing just that as they were dancing to the music as part of a Zumbatomic session. Zumbatomic is a dance and fitness program designed specifically for children. After Zumbatomic, Cascade Elite Gymnastics had a number of their athletes performing demonstrations. Children then had the opportunity to practice some tumbling moves of their own.
Other children headed over to Bike Rodeo sponsored by Cascade Bicycle Club. Many parents found their way over to the Swedish|Edmonds Health Fair or checked out a Lynnwood Fire Department aid van.
The Get Movin’ program was established in 2004 by a community partnership of public and private agencies to combat youth obesity in Snohomish County. That partnership has grown into a broad-based community coalition to help improve the health of Snohomish County residents by encouraging them to adopt a healthier lifestyle.
The participation in Get Movin’ has steadily increased each year as the program has grown from a single kick-off location to three kick-off locations this year; growing from 612 registered participants in 2004 to more than 3,000.
