Four Edmonds School District schools are recognized with 2014 Washington Achievement Awards, which honor the top performing schools in the state.

The schools are: Lynnwood High, Mountlake Terrace High, Sherwood Elementary, and the Challenge Program at Terrace Park School.

“We are proud of the consistent growth we see in all our schools,” Superintendent Nick Brossoit said. “The achievement awards are a testament to our efforts districtwide to provide individualized support to students at all academic levels. My thanks go to the students, staff, and families for their contributions, as well as our community in its support of our work.”

The awards from the Superintendent of Public Instruction and State Board of Education are based on three years of academic information as reported in the Washington Achievement Index.  Awards are given in six categories:  Overall Excellence; High Progress, Reading Growth, Math Growth, Extended Graduation Rate and English Language Acquisition.

“It is the dedication of various staff members that have created the welcoming environment in which students not only thrive educationally but also become part of the Lynnwood High family,” Lynnwood High Principal Dave Golden said, whose school was recognized for English Language Acquistion.

“I am proud of teachers for their consistent work towards continually improving their own learning about how to best teach all of our students,” Sherwood Elementary Principal Christi Kessler said regarding her school’s math growth.
