Fiber Art Embroidery by Irish artist Maura Donegan is featured at the Lynnwood Library Gallery through Sept. 4.
Working with silk organza, tulle, rayon & metallic thread, Donegan creates dramatic monochromatic lace cloth grids where she embroiders words, whose sounds & meanings evoke memories, both happy & sad.
Reminiscent of crosswords, answers emerge from hidden clues. Donegan has degrees in design, embroidery, quilting & fiber art having studied in Ireland, England & most recently the University of Washington. Like her mother, grandmother, great grandmother & the women before them who stitched for pleasure & comfort, she carries on that tradition in her works with patience, reflection & repetition.
A reception for Donegan will be from 6-8 p.m. on Aug.19.
The Lynnwood Library is located at 19200 44th Ave. W. in Lynnwood.
