Lynnwood police capture suspected bank robber near 196th Street Southwest QFC

Lynnwood police say they caught a bank robber today who showed a long firearm, then tried to drive off with stolen money, our online news partner The Seattle Times reported Thursday night.

The crime happened at 5:10 p.m. at a U.S. Bank branch in the 19000 block of Highway 99. The suspected robber drove a mile west, to the 7500 block of 196th Street Southwest, and abandoned his car in a business complex where the QFC is located. As Lynnwood and Edmonds officers converged, the 50-year-old suspect ran off.

At first, officers thought he was hiding in the vehicle, but instead there were mounds of items inside. A witness said the suspect ran into nearby woods, where officers made the arrest, said Lynnwood police Commander James Nelson. Customers were shopping in the business complex, which was placed on lockdown.
