Lynnwood Police Explorers recruiting new members

Lynnwood Police Explorers Post 911 members recently established a garden with the Lynnwood Adopt a Garden program.

Lynnwood Police Explorer Post 911 is currently recruiting new members.

Police Explorers are students from 14 to 21 years of age who have an interest in Law Enforcement.

The group’s mission is to educate and involve high school age youth in police operations and to expose department personnel to the positive side of youth with the goal of promoting community service and a positive image of the police department to all youth in the community. Explorers support the department by performing specific duties and assisting at police events. Some of the Explorers training includes: crime scene investigation, building searches, traffic stops and report writing, along with police ride-a-longs.

Post 911 was formed in March 1996 and currently has 16 members ranging in age from 14 to 21. The Post is currently recruiting for several openings for the 14-19 age group. Lynnwood Police Sgt. T.J. Brooks leads a team of 5 advisers who act as mentors and role models for the Explorers.

Post 911 meets three times per month and provides training on a variety of law enforcement related topics. In 2014 post members participated in approximately 1,700 hours of law enforcement related training and volunteer service during activities that include:

  • Patrol Ride-Alongs
  • Washington State Explorer Adviser Summer and Winter Academies
  • S.W.A.T. Training
  • Community events including Cops & Kids and National Night Out

The Explorers Post is a way for young people to investigate law enforcement as a career path, gain valuable team building skills, build self-confidence and contribute to the community in a positive way.
