The Everett Herald is reporting that Lynnwood Police made a startling find in the backpack of a convicted kidnapper — a loaded .22-caliber semiautomatic pistol, 18-inch zip ties, a roll of duct tape, two-way radios and a large knife.
30-year-old Tanar McKenzie was charged yesterday with unlawful gun possession. He was convicted in 1999 of first-degree kidnapping and can’t legally possess a gun.
Police made the discovery Monday after McKenzie allegedly assaulted another man at a Lynnwood bus stop.
The Herald reports that officers recognized him as someone who had also been at the scene of a suspicious shooting a few weeks earlier.
