The suspect in the neck slashing of an Everett woman, Yonathan A. Carreno Duarte of Lynnwood, turned himself into police at 8:30 p.m. Thursday, according to Everett Police Spokesman Aaron Snell.

The 28-year-old man will be booked into the Snohomish County jail, Snell stated.

A press release from the Everett Police Department said that the suspect reportedly cut his ex-girlfriend, a 20-year-old woman from Everett, in the neck on Wednesday. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the Safeway at 75th and Evergreen.

Arriving officers found a female in need of medical attention due to multiple lacerations to her neck. The victim told officers she went to Safeway with an ex-boyfriend to discuss domestic issues. While talking outside the business, the male pulled an edged weapon and slashed her several times along the neck. The woman started screaming and the male fled on foot as witnesses called 911. A knife was located near the crime scene and has been impounded as evidence. The woman was initially taken to Providence Medical Center – Colby Campus for her injuries but then was transported to Harborview Medical Center.

  1. I am glad that this man is in custody, but I can’t stand the headline! As written, it suggests that the man transformed himself “into” a police agency, or more than one officer. It could better be stated that he “turned himself in, to police”. Better still, he could have “surrendered”!
