Mail theft continues to be a problem after the holidays

my newsWhile mail and parcel thefts generally do peak during the holiday season, Lynnwood Police say that the problem is an on-going one.

Lynnwood Police noted that “Mail and parcel thefts do always spike during the holidays because of the ‘quick pay off’ aspect of intercepting a gift. That said, we already had an early spring increase in mail thefts and finding people who were in possession of stolen mail.”

“Simply, wandering thieves use their free time to troll neighborhoods and grab whatever they can get away with. Oftentimes they seek only a quick payoff of cash or maybe even a check they could forge. However, they almost always are aware the personal information contained in mail could have additional value to a more sophisticated criminal who can elevate to identity theft.”
