A 38-year-old man dismantling a horse arena on his property was seriously injured when a 70-foot steel truss collapsed and fell on him.
It happened about 8:35 Monday morning in the 20200 block of S. Danvers Road, not far from Hilltop Elementary.
Neighbors heard the collapse and called 911 after they found the man with his left leg pinned under the truss. He was the only person inside the 75-foot by 150-foot arena when the truss fell.
“The arena had been stripped down to mostly wood and steel framing. The roof had already been removed and this was the last truss left in the structure,” said Leslie Hynes, spokesperson Fire District 1.
Firefighters used high-pressure inflatable air bags to lift the steel truss off the man’s leg. Paramedics from nearby Hilltop Fire Station 22 transported him to Harborview in Seattle. His injuries are considered life-threatening.
