The Washington State Patrol identified a suspect shot in the leg by state troopers following a chase on Highway 99 from Lynnwood to Shoreline Thursday night as a 43-year-old Edmonds man.
The incident began at about 11:50 p.m. on Thursday, April 4, when a trooper assigned to Snohomish County was on patrol on Highway 99 near 196th Street Southwest in Lynnwood. The state patrol said the trooper was attempting to stop a car for a lane travel violation. The driver did not stop, at which time a pursuit began.
Troopers followed the suspect vehicle south on Highway 99 to 175th street, then west on 175th a few blocks, where the chase ended near two homes at the end of the street. Following the pursuit, one of the trooper’s vehicles was rammed by the suspect vehicle.
Two troopers fired at the suspect, who ran on foot a short distance before being taken into custody with a gunshot wound to the leg. The suspect was the only person in the vehicle. It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved, WSP Public Information Officer Mark Francis said Saturday.
The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries and was booked into King County Jail Friday, but has not yet been formally charged.
The troopers involved in the shooting will be on administrative re-assignment, which is standard procedure while the incident is being investigated.
