Man ticketed for riding in trunk on I-5 to avoid Uber fare

A driver and passenger were issued traffic tickets on Wednesday after the passenger was discovered riding in the trunk of a two-seated vehicle.

According to Washington State Patrol spokeswoman Heather Axtman, a separate driver noticed the vehicle’s trunk was slightly cracked and a person was inside. The witness called 9-1-1 ¬†around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Troopers pulled the car over on northbound I-5 near the Lynnwood Transit Center and discovered a man was indeed riding in the trunk.

“He had the trunk cracked for air,” Axtman said on Twitter.

His friend had been driving. The man in the trunk told troopers he was trying to avoid paying for an Uber ride.

Responders measured the temperature inside the trunk 10 minutes after the stop, revealing it was still 115 degrees inside.

The driver was issued a ticket for negligent driving, and the trunk-riding passenger was issued a ticket for not wearing a seat belt.
