When there’s an emergency, many times something as simple as a teddy bear can comfort a frightened child.
Students at Martha Lake Elementary School recently collected 115 teddy bears and other stuffed animals for Fire District 1 crews to give to kids in such situations. They made the donation during a school assembly on Wednesday.
“We carry teddy bears on all our engines and medic units to comfort children we see on emergency calls. Community donations make this possible,” said Kim Schroeder, fire and life safety education specialist.
The PTA and students have been donating bears to Fire District 1 for more than 10 years.
