The Meadowdale Mavericks came away winners in three big spring sports contests on
Tuesday, including a close victory over rival Edmonds-Woodway in district tourney boys soccer action.

In addition to the loss on the soccer pitch, E-W was tripped up on the baseball diamond, but did pick up a victory on the softball field and just the day before, a Wesco League South Conference title on the golf course.

The Mavericks’ boys soccer team won their second-straight District 1 match by penalty kicks, this time beating the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors 1-1 (5-4 on PK’s) at Shoreline Stadium. With the victory, Meadowdale has secured a berth in the WIAA State 3A Boys Soccer Tournament later this month and will play for the district championship on Saturday.

The Meadowdale softball team completed a perfect run through their 2019 regular season Wesco League competition with a 3-0 win over the Marysville-Getchell Chargers. The Mavs, 14-0 in 2A/3A Wesco League play and 16-4 overall this year, will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming District 1 3A Softball Tournament.

In baseball action, the Mavs slipped past the Royals 1-0 in a District 1 3A Baseball Tournament loser-out game played at Meadowdale High School. Meadowdale starter Mason Vaughn held Lynnwood, the No.9 seed in the tourney, to just three hits in six innings of work while Casey Toler got the save by keeping the Royals off the scoreboard in the seventh.

Meadowdale, the No. 5 seed in the district tournament, will face No. 2-seed Arlington on Wednesday, May 8, 4 p.m. in a winner-to-state, loser-out game at Arlington High School.

The Edmonds-Woodway Lady Warriors softball squad pulled off the upset of the day, smashing the Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks 11-4 at Marysville-Pilchuck High School. The Warriors will now wait and see just where they fall into the District 1 3A Softball Tournament bracket, to be finalized on Wednesday.
