Meadowdale junior Brady Johnson scored a fifth-inning unearned run for the only tally of the game as the Mavericks slipped past the Lynnwood Royals 1-0 in a Wesco League contest played Tuesday at Meadowdale High School.

In other recent Mavs’ sports action, the Meadowdale Mavericks’ boys soccer team was upset by the Mountlake Terrace Hawks 1-0 on Monday night at Edmonds Stadium.

In the baseball contest, Lynnwood’s Josh Latimer gave up just three hits, struck out seven and walked only one in a six-inning performance vs. Meadowdale, but the senior was saddled with the tough-luck mound loss.

Casey Toler earned the pitching win for the Mavs with teammate Parker Cumberland getting the save by putting the Royals down one-two-three in the seventh inning. Toler and Cumberland combined for three strikeouts of Lynnwood batters and issuing no walks in the shutout.

The Mavericks still have a chance to earn a share of the 2A/3A Wesco League South Conference championship, but must sweep their final four games of the regular season to do so. Meadowdale begins a two-game series with the current first place conference squad, the Archbishop Murphy Wildcats, on Wednesday, April 24.
