Mavs sports roundup: Baseball, softball teams earn shutouts

The Meadowdale Mavericks had a great day on the diamonds Monday, picking up shutout wins in both baseball and softball.

Mavs’ hurlers Mason Vaughn and Parker Cumberland combined to strike out eight and give up just three hits in Meadowdale’s 4-0 blanking of the Cedarcrest Red Wolves in Duvall. Cumberland also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and two RBI in the victory.

The win was the fifth in a row for the streaking Mavs.

The Meadowdale softball team earned its sixth Wesco League win of the season against no defeats with an 11-0 victory over the Shorewood Thunderbirds in Shoreline.

Doing the baseball team one better, the victory was the sixth in a row for the softball team — and the second consecutive triumph by an 11-0 score.
