The Meadowdale Mavericks will get to compete for a district boys soccer championship one day earlier than previous scheduled thanks to a school dance.

The District 1 3A Boys Soccer Tournament championship match pitting the No. 2-seed Mavs against No. 1-seed Marysville-Pilchuck Tomahawks had been slated to take place on Saturday, May 11. But the game has been rescheduled for Friday, May 10, as the Marysville-Pilchuck High School prom is taking place on Saturday.

Moving the game to Friday so that Tomahawk players could attend the school’s prom on Saturday was agreed upon by Meadowdale and M-P coaches.

The Meadowdale – Marysville-Pilchuck district championship match will kickoff at 5 p.m. at Shoreline Stadium.

The Mavs (13-5-0 this season) and Tomahawks (16-1-1) have already qualified for the WIAA 3A State Boys Soccer Tournament that begins next week; the brackets for the state tourney are expected to be finalized on Sunday.

The Edmonds-Woodway Warriors took first place in the 2A/3A Girls Golf Wesco League South Division Tournament held May 7 at Jackson Park Golf Course while the Meadowdale Mavericks’ second place finish earned them the season-long conference championship.

The Mavericks went undefeated in dual team competitions this year, including a five-stroke victory over the Warriors on May 2, to earn enough team points to take the conference title.

At the 3A Wesco League South Division Girls Tennis Tournament held at Jackson High School, five players from Edmonds-Woodway and Meadowdale High School qualified for the District 1 3A tourney next week. E-W’s Natalie Paulson will compete in the district singles’ tournament while the Warriors’ doubles team of Alexi Huffman and Christabel Jamison, plus the Mavs’ doubles team of Isabel Reonal and Kelsey Cummins, have earned spots in upcoming district doubles’ action.
