With less than a week left until the primary election, the candidates for mayor of Lynnwood have increased their spending and fundraising efforts.
Edmonds Community College Dean of Student Life and Development Nicola Smith has raised $12,131 and spent $10,835, as of July 31, according to the Washington Public Disclosure Commission. Nicola Smith also reports $535 of independent expenditures from the Affordable Housing Council.
Incumbent Mayor Don Gough has raised $8,529 and spent $3,492. City Councilmember Mark Smith has raised $8,725 and spent $5,453. He also shows a debt of $1,616. City Council President Loren Simmonds has raised $6,220 and spent $4,688.
City Council Position No. 3 candidate Douglas Lovitt reports $512 of independent expenditures from the Affordable Housing Council.
The statewide primary election is Aug. 6. The top two vote-getters in each race will advance to the general election on Nov. 5.
Voters in Lynnwood will elect a mayor and three councilmembers.
Primary election voters have until Aug. 6 to get their completed ballots in the mail and postmarked, or dropped into a 24-hour ballot drop box. The closest ballot drop boxes is outside Lynnwood City Hall at 19100 44th Ave. W.
