Meadowdale High School tops in on-time graduation rates

Meadowdale High has the highest on-time graduation rate, while Lynnwood has the lowest among the four Edmonds School District high schools.

Here are the on-time graduation rates:

  • Meadowdale High 91.8 percent
  • Edmonds-Woodway High 84.2 percent
  • Mountlake Terrace High 84.0 percent
  • Lynnwood High 75.8 percent

Patrick Murphy, Assistant Superintendent for Secondary, reported that Edmonds School District’s on-time graduation rate for 2012 is 74.2 percent.

The district offers nine other diploma-granting entities beyond the four comprehensive high schools including, eLearning, EdCAP and Edmonds Heights K-12. About 15 percent of district students take part in these other programs. The graduation rates in those schools/programs are considerably lower in part because students sometimes arrive at EdCAP or Scriber, or even eLearning, deficient in credits and sometimes at risk of dropping out.

Students in these programs sometimes need more time to fulfill graduation requirements. This lowers the district’s four-year graduation rate. The EdCAP program for example had 126 students scheduled to graduate, seven graduated on-time, 84 continued on and 35 dropped out. Forty-nine of the 126 students came from out of the Edmonds School District.

“We’ve become a gathering place for kids from other districts that have no other options,” Board Member Ann McMurray said.
