Meet your local business: Remote Green Solutions, Inc.

Business name:  Remote Green Solutions, Inc.

Products and/or services: From owner Tim Johns — “We’re creating new technology to help oil and gas pipeline operators do a better job with federal requirements for patrolling their pipeline right-of-ways. Currently approximately 400,000 miles of pipeline must be patrolled for obvious leaks, construction encroachment, and other hazards, at intervals ranging from once a year up to once every two weeks, depending on what they’re carrying and how close they run to areas of high consequence.  We endeavor to make it extraordinarily effective and dirt cheap, starting with augmenting infrequent visual patrols with multispectral satellite imagery processing, and then in several years when the FAA allows, using unmanned aircraft systems (drones).”

How long in business: The idea has been around for a while, but didn’t start active development on it until September of this year, following a July announcement from the FAA regarding the developing roadmap for the integration of drones into North American airspace.

Unique/interesting features about business: From Johns — “Drones, machine learning, and geospatial big data. It doesn’t get much more cutting edge than that. The fact that we’re looking to apply that cutting-edge technology to a very practical, narrow, relevant, real-world problem, where literally everyone on the planet benefits, is something we’re tremendously excited about. It’s motivating.”
