Memorial Day events in Lynnwood

Sunday, May 30

The VFW Post 1040 will be hosting a Memorial Day celebration at Veterans Park (44th Ave. W. and Veterans Way) from 11 – 11:30 a.m. This year’s speakers include Tammy Hess, a Gold Star mother, and Capt. Gerkin from the Washington National Guard. The Northwest Junior Pipe Band will be performing.

Continue the celebration at the Lynnwood Library for a book discussion of The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien, a series of short stories about a fictional platoon in Vietnam, from 2 – 3 p.m. Vietnam veterans from the VFW Post 1040 will be on hand to share their experiences.

Monday, May 31

The 16th annual Memorial Day service at Floral Hills Cemetery (409 Filbert Road) from 3 – 4 p.m., honoring the high school JROTC programs. This year’s speaker is CDR. Randy Brasfield, USN/RET, Senior Naval Science Instructor at Marysville/Pilchuck High School. The Northwest Gospel Jazz Band will be performing.
