Musician and activist Derrick Ashong will be the featured speaker this Tuesday at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. celebrations in Lynnwood.

Ashong leads the band Soulfège and hosts of “The Derrick Ashong Experience” on SIRIUS XM’s Oprah Radio. He’s  known for his lyrics that promote social change, and he won Billboard Magazine’s World Song Writing Competition in 2007. He’s worked with artists such as Debbie Allen, Janet Jackson and Bobby McFerrin. He’s also known for a YouTube video about President Obama that’s been viewed more than a million times.

Two free events will held on Tuesday — one at Edmonds Community College’s Black Box Theatre at 12:30 p.m. and the other at Meadowdale High School’s Great Hall at 7 p.m.

The city of Lynnwood, Edmonds Community College, Central Washington University and the Edmonds School District have collaborated for several years to sponsor MLK celebrations.
