An elderly woman safely escaped a fire at her mobile home late Sunday night north of Lynnwood.
Dispatchers received several calls around 11 p.m. about the fire at Carriage Club Estates in the 13300 block of Highway 99. Firefighters from Lynnwood, Fire District 1 and Mukilteo arrived to find a two-car garage and a nearby mobile home on fire. The elderly woman escaped after someone pounded on her door.
Firefighters called for a second alarm shortly after arriving on the scene. “We had two structures on fire, and other mobile homes also in close proximity that we needed to protect as well,” Fire District 1 spokesperson Leslie Hynes said.
“They kept the fire from spreading to other homes. They knocked down the fire in the garage within about 20 minutes, but it took about an hour to get the fire in the mobile home under control because hidden flames in between the ceiling and roof kept flaring up,” Hynes said.
Both the garage and the mobile home are a total loss. The garage was used by mobile home park management as storage for tools and equipment. The park owners and mobile home owner have insurance. Investigators are still looking for the cause.
