Lynnwood artist Pamla Penning is the featured artist at the Lynnwood Library Gallery.
Penning grew up visiting Camp Sealth each summer on Vashon Island and many of her oil paintings reflect familiar northwest scenes of water, wildlife & ferry boats.
“I’ve explored water color, silk screening, acrylic painting, fused glass jewelry, stained glass windows and now I am focused on oil painting and loving it,” Penning said. “I paint in several styles dictated by the subject matter and mood I want to project. I have painted many oil portraits and consider that my forte. I paint from photographs. I try to project the goodness and best qualities of the subject using dramatic value contrast and unique settings, or musical instruments etc, that further define the subject. The use of color and the general palette chosen, is part of creating the desired mood.”
Penning graduated from the University of Washington and taught for several years in the Seattle Public School District. Penning has worked in many mediums but considers oil to be her forte. Her exhibit runs through June 27.
