New year brings new principals to Lynnwood schools

Several new principals are taking the helm at Lynnwood-area schools as the new year begins.

Spruce Elementary

Katy Kayler is the new principal at Spruce Elementary.

Most recently, she served as as the principal intern at Hollywood Hill Elementary in the Northshore District,  as well as an elementary teacher on special assignment in literacy and assessment.

She is a coach for 3rd and 6th grade teachers in curriculum. She has managed literacy program adoption and implementation, and has been a mentor for first year teachers through the UW Teacher Education Program. Katy was also coach and reading teacher at Kenmore Elementary.

Lynndale Elementary

Chris Fulford is now principal at Lynndale.

He had been a principal intern since August 2011, along with serving as the House Administrator since November 2009 at South Shore PK-8 School in the Seattle School District.  He was a physical education teacher at South Shore from 2005-2009.  He has used the Charlotte Danielson Framework for Teaching and Learning to support teacher growth, which the district says will be very helpful as it transitions to the new evaluation system.

Brier-Terrace Middle School

Donna “Alex” Alexander has been the associate principal at Eastlake High School / Renaissance School of Arts and Reasoning Jr. High in the Lake Washington School District since 2009, as well as the secondary summer school principal for 2011-12.
