Register your neighborhood for National Night Out

Registration has begun in Lynnwood for National Night Out. It’s an annual event in which residents turn on their porch light and go outside to meet their neighbors in the name of crime prevention.

This year’s night out is Tuesday, Aug 2. Lynnwood police, fire and city officials will visit each neighborhood that has registered in advance.

“By involving several households in each neighborhood, it becomes a real community building effort and everyone shares in the expense and fun of putting on a block party,” said Shannon Sessions, police spokesperson.

Some suggestions include banana splits in someone’s garage, a pool party at a condo, a front yard potluck or a barbecue in the driveway.

The idea is to strengthen community and police partnerships and to send a message that neighbors are fighting back against crime. More than 1,500 people in 33 neighborhoods across Lynnwood participated last year.

To register, contact Shannon Sessions at ssessions@ci.lynnwood.wa.us or 425-670-5635. Churches, businesses and hotels are also invited to participate.
