Once the location of Alderwood Mall Sears, Avalon Apartments taking shape

The changing face of Alderwood Mall: Gone is the Sears store; in its place will be this 328-unit apartment complex.

Avalon Apartments will have two buildings, each six stories high. The ground floor will be reserved for retail.

Completion is scheduled for 2022.

  1. How ugly! Who wants to live between the freeway and the mall? NOT ME!!!!!! Talk about ruining our city with these ugly low income housing units. The mall will not be a safe place to shop after this unit open! Thanks city hall for making our city worst than before!

    1. Avalon is not even affordable for low-income folks – the apartments on 164th rent from $1600/month for the smallest units. And yes, stacking hundreds of people on top of each other between a mall and a freeway is an insult to basic human dignity. This isn’t about helping actual humans; it’s about helping Avalon make out like bandits.

    2. Monstrosity is what comes to mind. Eyesore is way too kind a word. Avalon does nothing for lower income residents and it certainly won’t help traffic and all the devastating harm it does to our environment and ability to shop locally. I ask Lynnwood leaders, who exactly is really benefiting here?
