The Pacific Little League 10- and 11-year old all-star team captured the Washington State Championship.
Pacific Little League defeated Redmond North 11-1 in four innings in the championship game on July 25 in Vancouver, Wash.
“It was a great effort by everyone,” manager Carl Heckman said.
The state title was the first-ever for a Pacific Little League 10- and 11-year-old all-star team. After a first-round bye, Pacific defeated Redmond North 7-2 and then overpowered Gig Harbor 12-1. In the semifinals, Pacific beat Richland 12-5.
“I know we were good, but it was surprising,” Heckman said of the team’s run at state. “We had dominating pitching, just great defense and unbelievable hitting. I think we had the most powerful group of hitters out there.”
This was the final tournament of the season for Pacific Little League, which beat Mill Creek to win the district championship.
