5:50 p.m. Update: The State Patrol says the pedestrian is an older male. The driver is a 30-year-old man from Everett. He is said to be very shaken by the incident. WSP says drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors at this point.

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Highway 99 north of Lynnwood Wednesday afternoon.

Trooper Keith Leary tells us the male pedestrian was trying to cross the highway in an area without a crosswalk north of Lincoln Way. Leary said the pedestrian made it through the first southbound lane, but tripped and fell in the next lane. An oncoming Honda Accord locked his brakes and struck the pedestrian. He was killed at the scene.

So far this looks like an accident and no charges are expected against the driver, Leary said.

  1. Well, actually there is a crosswalk there but it’s a half block south. I guess someone was too lazy (again) and now another driver will be traumatized for hitting someone. I drive for a living and see this happening more and more every day on Hiway 99, anyone got a solution?
